NVoT Choir Wins 2nd Place at USIMC

Recently, our NVoT choir participated in its first choir competition (USIMC) and won second place at the Stanford Braun Music Center! 

Wings of Sound is a choir that was created to showcase the passion our visually impaired youth harbor for singing. Our choir plans on performing at multiple concerts through the years. 

Performance at SF Giants vs Cleveland Indians Game

Tristen, who performed at the We Are Together concert, was invited to perform with the group “Everybody is a Star” at the July 18 SF Giants vs Cleveland Indians game where they sang the national anthem. Before the game, New Visions of Tomorrow volunteers guided Tristen around the city and took him down to the pier to watch street performers.

2017 SJ Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy Soccer Fundraiser

New Visions of Tomorrow managed one of the concession stands during the Earthquakes vs. Galaxy game. Volunteers were in charge of preparing and selling food and drinks to the audience, with all proceeds going to our organization. Our successful fundraising will support nonprofits for the visually impaired, as well as our future activities in coordinating and hosting future volunteer events.

Choir Performance at the Mayfield Grand Opening

The New Visions of Tomorrow choir was invited by the Mayfield Plaza developer, Related Inc, to perform together with other professionals at the grand opening of the Palo Alto Mayfield Plaza. After the performance, the choir joined adults Vista Center director, Pam Brandin and Palo Alto Mayor, Greg Scharff in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Vista Center Opening Ceremony

New Visions of Tomorrow was invited to join the opening ceremony for the Vista Center's new building along with other donors, city, and state officials. Using the wish well cards collected at the We Are Together concert on May 21st, we made a poster board as a gift to the Vista Center. The poster board also featured pictures  from the We Are Together Concert.

Check Donation to the Vista Center

On June 15th, New Visions of Tomorrow donated a check of over $14,000 fundraised at the We Are Together concert to the Vista Center for the Blind. While there, we received a tour around the new building they recently moved into from Director of the Vista Center, Kaleo Waxman.

We Are Together Concert 2017

On May 21, 2017, New Visions of Tomorrow co-hosted the We Are Together concert at the De Anza Visual and Performing Arts Center, at De Anza College in Cupertino. Our efforts managed to fill every single seat in the auditorium, among the crowd was Barry Chang and Emily Lo, mayors of Cupertino and Saratoga, respectively. We are proud to report that over $14,000 raised in the event will be donated to the Vista Center For the Blind and Visually Impaired, a local charity giving the opportunity for people to live their life to the fullest. 

The Silicon Valley Youth Orchestra performed at the concert, as well as an NVoT organized singing group featuring VI kids and some of our volunteers. The feature performance was Tristan Chen, a gifted visually impaired pianist that gave a solo performance as well as conducted the orchestra through several pieces. Recently, Vista Center's board meeting included an official message sent by our co-presidents -- it is safe to say that the "We are Together" concert was one of our capstone events of the year!

The NVoT organization and team would like to thank all that attended the concert and their generosity. Your willingness to support the visually impaired makes all the difference for the community.

Los Altos Botball Competition

Recently, VI student Brian Aylesworth joined NVoT team member Justin Yu's Los Altos Botball robotics team practice, as well as accompanied them as they pitted their robot against others at a local competition at NASA's Ames Research Center. Brian also gave a speech on behalf of the team at the competition. Pictures of both events are below.

 

Concessions: 2017 PAC-12 Women's Gymnastics Championship

Recently, several NVoT volunteers worked at Maples Pavilion to serve attendees of the 2017 PAC-12 Women's Gymnastics Championship, where they sold hamburgers and hot dogs to fundraise for the organization. Several pictures of our team that day as well as members of the US Olympic Team are below: 

2017 Stanford Men's Basketball Concessions versus Oregon

New Visions of Tomorrow managed concession stands on Saturday, February 25th during the home game against Oregon State. NVoT volunteers were in charge of preparing and selling food and drinks to the audience, with all proceeds going to our organization. Our successful fundraising will support nonprofits for the visually impaired, as well as our future volunteer events.

2017 Kung Fu Event

On January 8, 2017, New Visions of Tomorrow organized an event at Pure Shaolin Kung Fu in Belmont, CA to expose visually impaired children to advanced motor skills utilized in martial arts, such as the use of balance and flexibility as they kicked and punched with the guidance of our volunteers. As seen in the photos below, participants were guided through a number of stretches in order to prepare their body to the regimen of Kung Fu, then took part in learning the positions of the basic stances of the sport. Even the punching and kicking bags were used to let out some unwanted stress. The photos can be seen below:

Event #61: 2016 Ice Skating Event

New Visions of Tomorrow coordinated the annual winter ice skating event alongside Vista Center this year at the Winter Lodge (Palo Alto). NVoT members were on hand to make sure that visually impaired youth had companions and received guidance as they skated. Additionally, volunteers on hand helped to serve food and guide skaters to different areas of the skating arena. Volunteers also handed out handmade holiday cards written in Braille to each visually impaired youth.

2016 Holiday Card Making

On December 16th, New Visions of Tomorrow members met at the Mountain View Library to make holiday cards for the visually impaired. Holiday greetings were first created using a braille typwriter. Later, members designed and drew pictures on the cards.

2016 Christmas Choir

New Visions of Tomorrow sponsored a Christmas choir performance sung by the visually impaired kids. The choir performance was held at the Santa Clara University Recital Hall.

2016 Visit to Silicon Valley Youth Orchestra

On December 4th, New Visions of Tomorrow members brought visually impaired children to visit the Silicon Valley Youth Orchestra. Volunteers helped guide the children around the orchestra exploring and feeling the types of instruments in the orchestra.

2016 Stanford Men's Football Concessions versus Rice University

In Stanford's final regular season game of the 2016 season, NVoT volunteers were busy selling food items to customers while raising funds for the visually impaired. Below are some pictures from the event. We wish Stanford good luck in their bowl game as they cap their season off.

2016 NVoT Cooking Event

On November 19th, NVoT members had a fun and relaxing cooking session with the visually impaired, all from scratch. Teen Chef David taught the children how to make pizza, baked chicken drumsticks, and apple pie from the recipe of the blind winner of Master Chef season 3 Christine Ha from raw ingredients. Our volunteers helped guide the children to identify different textures, such as the soft, pillow-like feel of the dough or the smooth outer skin of the tomatoes that create the pizza sauce.

 

2016 FLL Qualifier Promotion Fundraiser

New Visions of Tomorrow managed a booth that sold snakes for robotics members participating in the 2016 FLL Robotics Qualifier at Blanch Middle School. Volunteers also helped to sell food and drinks to bystanders to raise awareness of our cause. The proceeds will support nonprofits for the visually impaired, as well as our future activities in coordinating and hosting future volunteer events. Pictures are below: 

2016 Cardinal Kid Pass

New Visions of Tomorrow sponsored a Cardinal Kids Pass to a visually impaired child's family to attend one of Stanford's football games.
